Two Easy Challenges for The Opponents of Universal Health Care

We, at The Middle of Nowhere, are positively sick of the scare-mongering, distortions and lies spread about the "evil" socialistic (OMG!) health care.

So I have two challenges for the scare-mongers:

First, present well-documented and reliable cases where the "socialisticky-ish" health care, in Canada, France, Germany or UK, proved inferior to our wonderful for-profit system and specifically because of those awful things you say that "socialisticky-ish" health care does to people: rationing, death panels, etc. And I mean documented cases, not just say-so stories from your wingnut friends or half-deranged talk show hosts.

The second challenge is this: because you hate the government-run health care so much, we want you to put your money where your mouth is (or is it the other way around?) and opt out now of Medicare, Medicaid, VA and any possible public or government-subsidized option you may come across at this time or in the future.

And yes, I mean our government employees here too -- so congressmen and senators, all of you who oppose any government's "intrusion" in your health care, opt out NOW. This would mean dropping your current health insurance and getting out there in the marketplace to buy your own, private, untainted by the dirty government's hands, health insurance policy. It only makes sense, right? Why should you suffer any additional minute in this evil, oppressive, government-sponsored set-up? (You may thank me later.)

I will volunteer to collect the signatures of all those, who, I have no doubt, cannot wait to drop their filthy socialisticky-ish Medicare and Medicaid (and VA) health care, plus government-sponsored private insurance coverage, because they hate the government so much.

And those who are not yet eligible for those programs, I will accept your signatures confirming that you will not, ever, in the future even consider benefiting from those evil programs. This will ease your pain and give you some peace of mind, finally, but it will also save Medicare, etc., monies -- so everyone benefits, the way I see it.

The challenge begins NOW -- so don't procrastinate!

I hope you are not holding your breath.

Well, whatever do you mean, Jerry?

Are you really saying that those people who so vehemently oppose the government in all its evil aspects would be so brazenly hypocritical as to take advantage of the government-run programs? I simply cannot imagine that.

I'm counting minutes until the first signatures show up -- and there will be no stopping them, I know it.

Just look at all those people screaming about how much they hate the government! They are all honest, decent and hard-working folks who'd never touch anything even remotely associated with the government-run anything.

You know, I am surprised by your, er, cynicism. ;)

Hello Americans, why do those big capitalist foundations support public health care?

Jerry Critter said...

Whatcha' smokin'? Can I get some?

Person said...

I'll get you some if you can answer my question.

Elizabeth said...

Person, maybe you can give some examples of the capitalist foundations supporting public health care?

I think, but I'm not sure, that you are talking about charity foundations -- is that right?

Actually, Person, my questions were for Elizabeth.

Oops! Sorry, Person and Jerry! My mistake.

But... Are you serious, Jerry? You mean... you mean to say that you honestly doubt wingnuts will not ditch their oppressive government benefits for the sake of their precious liberty?

Goodness gracious... Could it be...? No, I will not give up. You must have faith, my man!

Granted, I've not gotten any volunteers yet, but, um, it's been only one day and I am sure they'll start pouring in any minute. It cannot be otherwise, can it? Can it?!

And, oh, it's called Valium (not smoking so much as digesting, in large enough quantities). But I hear Fukitol is equally effective. Ask your doc, you know... :)

Jerry Critter said...

Quite frankly, my dear, I think I am ready for a big dose of Fukitol.

Here, have some of mine. I have a big stash (all from Canada, mind you) and am willing to share, what the heck. :)

Well, you could check this out.

Thousands of surgeries may be cut in Metro Vancouver due to government underfunding, leaked paper

Thanks for that, Joe.

No prob.

The folks who know the Canadian system the best, the current president of the CMA and the previous president of the CMA, both agree that the system is imploding.
